NYX Chunky Dunk Hydrating Lippies Review

Hey guys! Wooo when I saw these at Ulta on clearance I knew I had to scoop them up to review because they came out not too long ago! I picked up the nude, a rosey pink, and a deep/brightrr berry. They were on clearance for $2.99, but retail on NYX's website (http://www.nyxcosmetics.com/p-253-chunky-dunk-hydrating-lippie.aspx) for $6.Here's the picture I posted of them on my Instagram! Top to bottom: "Rum Punch", "Peach Fuzzy", and "Berry Mojito"..

But what are they?? According to NYX's website.. "Be Lippie Chic with this satiny smooth formula. Light and sheer at first, yet buildable the more you apply. Never needs a sharpener, the portable package propels and repels for ease of use and no product is wasted. A makeup bag must have!
• What it is: A sheer tinted, lightweight lip balm with a satin finish.

• What it does: Creates a satiny sheer wash of hydrating color that is buildable on the lips.
• Why we love it: Can be layered for light to medium coverage.
• How to use: Apply directly on bare lips or over lip liner for more pigmentation."

But.. is it true?! For the most part yes..but they did say this is a lip balm which is where I beg to differ. This product is not drying nor very hydrating; it is comfortable to wear.. these remind me of a creamy lipstick but in a chubby lip pencil form.

There are two swatches of each color.. the first swatch of each is only one swipe while the second swatch is it built up to its opacity.. LtoR "Rum Punch", "Peach Fuzzy", and "Berry Mojito"

These wear off/transfer when eating a meal (not necessarily like a quick snack bar haha) and drinking so this is the type of product you would want to carry with you to reapply. Without eating or drinking the shine these have does stick around a good while and so does the color. It lasts about 4 hours! After they are faded away I wanted something a little more hydrating on my lips because they went without the added moisture for hours. I would not recommend these unless you grab them at Ulta this week (only $1.79 because of sales) and because I expected a "hydrating lippie" as the packaging says but it just is not.

On Trend: Orange Lips

The orange lip trend has been getting super popular!! I find that I cannot necessarily pull it off too well, but I wanted to show you guys the orange lip products I do have incase you'd like to see some offerings at the drugstore for this trend!
Here are the stars..
Baby Lips in "Coral Crush"
This is orange not coral!! Anyways, this is for those who just want to dip their toes into orange lips.. it is sheer obviously being a tinted balm. But since orange is red and yellow, the redness/warmth in lips will cause this to be different on everyone.. kind of interesting how our natural lip colors can affect things!!

Revlon Lip Butter in "Juicy Papaya"
This is an orange that has a little coral to it.. you'll be getting a fresh looking color. The swatch shows it having more of a pinky-coral base but it looks more orange when applied.

Maybelline Color Sensational High Shine Gloss in "Captivating Coral"
This is my favorite gloss formula!! They are gel-like, non sticky, and loaded with pigment!! Seriously everyone needs one of the glosses from this line in their life!! It's perfect. You're getting a true orange with this shade.

Swatches LtoR: Maybelline gloss, revlon lip butter, Maybelline Baby Lips

BATTLE OF THE EYE PRIMERS $1-$20

Hi guys!! I feel like every brand is coming out with eye primers... Essence, Milani, Rimmel, Urban Decay (obviously), and Smashbox are just a few brands that come to mind. Priming the eyes is essential in my opinion because you can turn a mediocre shadow into one that is more intense and longwearing. Also, who wants to slave over an eye look only for it to look sub-par and crease? Not me. I wanted to really compare a few eye primers for you guys. In this experiment I kept everything equal in this. They are all average eye primers with the doe foot applicator and all creamy, so no shimmer. I will be testing all 3 of them with the same quad (Maybelline Modern Metallics in "Sunlit Bronze" which does not have great pigmentation so we can really see how these help). I have swatches for you guys as well as the looks I created using this quad with each of the primers. I will be comparing the e.l.f $1, yes only a dollar, eyelid primer in "Sheer", the Urban Decay Primer Potion in "Original", and the Smashbox Photo Finish Eyelid Primer (marketed in a universal warm beige shade).
Here's a quick pic of the products :)

Important note: I do not very oily lids nor dry lids; they're just average so this is just a review from my regular lids.. ;)

**AS A REFERENCE... here they are swatched without primer**
(Really Maybelline nothing better?? Just a flakey shadow???)
Here they are swatches over a primer:

Urban Decay:

 Smashbox:
Quick observation: The e.l.f and Smashbox definitely took that lightest champagne color and made it usable!!
Now I could leave it at some swatches but I want to show you them in action because that's how we use them!! So, over the next 3 days I will be using this quad and these eye primers, make looks and reporting the information!

The e.l.f Eyelid Primer in "Sheer" ($1)
- Coverage? None, this would definitely not cover veins, etc.
- Texture? Very thin, yet blends easily and stays put. It is a little sticky but not as much as the other two that really hold onto those shadows. This definitely helped bind them together and make them work.
- Vibrancy? This added the most vibrancy to the shadows out of all three primers, it really emphasized the color.
- Creasing? None
- Does the look lose intensity? It wasn't intense to begin with, but no.

Urban Decay Primer Potion in "Original" ($20)
- Coverage? Very light, definitely more than the e.l.f one, but would only cover very minor discoloration.
- Texture? Spreads easily across the eye is not very thick nor liquidy.. in the middle. :) This has a stickiness to it to grabs onto the shadows. The stickiness is not noticeable unless touching it I know that sounds a little funny to have sticky lids!! :) This definitely helped bind them together and make them work.
- Vibrancy? This did not create as good of payoff as the e.l.f. primer.
- Creasing? None.
-Does the look lose intensity? No.

The Smashbox Photo Finish Eyelid Primer ($20)
- Coverage? This covers well and would definitely cover veins and darkness.
- Texture? Thicker than the other two, reminds me almost of how the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams and their whipped consistency. Binded shadows nicely.
- Vibrancy? It added about an amount between the e.l.f and the Urban Decay.
- Creasing? None.
- Does the look lose intensity? No.

Similarities between all 3: Binded the shadow together to make them work cohesively instead of them being super flakey. I didn't see any creasing or fading. They all performed very similarly.

Which wins the battle?
e.l.f!!!
Why?
They all work the same so why not go with the cheapest one? The single difference is the coverage.. this does not provide any, but even with the numerous colored bases at the drugstore that would offer coverage (think Maybelline Color Tattoos; like "Barely Branded") I still wouldn't repurchase the Urban Decay or Smashbox primer.

Thanks for reading!!

My Nail Polish Purge

Hey guys!! Rarely are my nails naked ( but I am getting a job at Wendy's soon and policy says they can't be polished :/ ).. Anyways, I recently went through my makeup collection and threw out some makeup I didn't use or that I felt was expired. Basically, I purged a lot of beauty items I felt were cluttering up around my room/makeup setup..Today I'm going through my polish stash of about 50 and showing you what I'm getting rid of. Most of these are either too sheer (which is the worst thing for a polish to be for me) or I loved them and used them so much that they're goopy and just old. In this post I have 3 categories entailing why I'm tossing each polish..
1. They're too sheer and frustrating!!
2. The formula chips a lot; not longwearing.
3. They got goopy and gunky after so many uses and their shelf life.
Alright so first is the sheer polishes.. LtoR: Candie's "Mighty Mint", Sinful Colors's "Cinderella", Forever 21's "Cherry", L'Oreal's "Cockatoo's Mystery", and Sation's "Love at First Byte".. I love the colors of the first, second, and last polishes!! That Sation one would be a lovely nude peach but it won't show up!!

Here's the batch of polishes that were not longwearing enough..
Left is Nicka K.'s "NY 112", and the right polish is Maybelline's "Orange Fix".. these had major chipping. The Maybelline one is old, around when the Color Show polishes came out, but it still keeps me away from these and seeing if it has been re-formulated.

These got super goopy!! Sinful Colors's glitter in "I Miss You!" and Orly's Nail Defense Strengthening Protein Treatment. I really loved the Orly treatment when I first bought it but I think my nails got used to it and it was not as effective as it had once been.

These are polishes that got goopy too, but I reallllllly used these a lot. Left is Rimmel's "Steel Grey" and right is Zoya's "Julie".. I love purple/gray/taupe colors like that Rimmel one!! I think I might repurchase that actually after I finish off some other polishes ( that takes me a while.. slowly but surely will finish some ;) ). Zoya's "Julie" was so pretty!! I got this and "Mason" in previous Ipsy bags. I wish this was the only polish brand we got in Ipsy!! ( Alas.. we get Nailtini, too ).

Dirt Cheap Products Worth Trying

Hey guys!! I wanted to share with you some super affordable makeup that really impresses me. I did not just pull out a ton of cheap makeup in my collection, I really looked at what I enjoyed!
First, Essence's Stays No Matter What shadow pencils.. I have "Cute Copper" and "Whipped White Frosting"
Left is Whipped "White Frosting" and the right is "Cute Copper".. These are amazing bases! Well, I personally use them as bases and they DO NOT CREASE!! These can definitely be used as a cream shadow. The copper one is definitely a little smoother in texture.

Of course.. WetnWild shadows!! "Knock on Wood" trio and "Silent Treatment".
The top three swatches are from "Knock on Wood", and bottom is "Silent Treatment".. These speak for themselves; no primer beneath these swatches and look at that pigmentation!! Perfect texture, too.

WetnWild MegaLiner specifically in "863"
I just love this color!! I use this in looks that I post on my Instagram (@makeupbyemilyy).. This actually stains if that gives you an idea of its longevity.. ;) On a side note, I did not like the purple one in this line.

WetnWild bronzer in "Reserve Your Cabana"
This is my everyday highlight and I love it!! This is an unblended swatch, just so pretty on the cheekbones. It can be your subtle highlight or your extreme highlight. I apply this with my e.l.f Blush Brush just to keep it in those targeted areas. :)

Lippie time!!!! Left to right: Maybelline Color Whisper in "Mocha Muse", Maybelline Baby Lips in "Cherry Me", WetnWild Fergie lipstick in "Bebot Love"
Left to Right: one pass of the Color Whisper, Color Whisper built up, one swipe of Baby Lips, Baby Lips built up, a single pass of the WetnWild Fergie lipstick
I really love the color whisper formula; this particular shade makes a nude lip so easy and casual because of its ability to build upon itself. This is the only Baby Lips that has ever truly impressed me, all tinted balms are a super low-maintenance lip products but this really brightens up the face. Not necessarily on its own though, this builds with your natural lip color and just makes a pretty cherry color. I keep this one on the go with me!
This WetnWild lipstick is so pigmented!! I was so disappointed with the MegaLast lipsticks and how drying they were. These Fergie ones are super creamy and that swatch was only ONE PASS!! The pigment is beautiful.. also these are more moisturizing and overall more comfortable than the MegaLast line. The Fergie line has some beautiful brights and colorful shades that are limited edition and they're beautiful!

June 2014 Ipsy Open Bag

Hey guys hope you're having a good day!   I wanted to show you guys my Ipsy thipsy in my Ipsy month. This is NOT a review, just an open bag post. I actually like the print of the bag and I usually could care less about the bag..

I got a Be a Bombshell Lash Out Mascara, I wish ipsy varied their brands I feel like I always see Be a Bombshell. Mascara just isn't exciting to me either way.

I got a Nicka K. shimmer eyeliner in a pretty turquoise color. It is just like the WetNWild liquid liner in 863 if you're looking for a pretty liner that is cheaper. This is the most exciting makeup product in the bag to me, I love bold liner. I swatched this and it is perfect.

NYX Butter Gloss in Apple Streudel.. really kind of meh on this product, I like ipsy in order to try something new and this just bores me, I don't believe in its hype.

Dove Pure Care Dry Oil..I was a little surprised considering that Dove is a pretty affordable brand yet they gave out sucha tiny sample!

Clarisea Charcoal Exfoliant.. ahh yes, I love exfoliants so I can't wait to use this!!!
